Misadventures in Dating Apps Part 1

I know that dating apps have become a popular avenue recently, so I would be remiss if I didn’t include them in a dating blog.  I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about dating apps.  They have provided some interesting material though.  I also should mention that I’m not very talented at this whole thing so you probably should use this more as a what not to do.  So here it goes.

First Foray

It was about two years ago when I was first introduced to the whole dating app thing.  I had already tried online dating with no success, but I didn’t really know anything about dating apps.  Then I had a brief acquaintance tell me that I should try Tinder.  She told me that it was amazing and that she had already met a great guy.  I debated about it for a bit and then gave in and downloaded it.  It was all of about 12 hours before I got my first inappropriate picture and decided that I did not need that.  I quickly deleted the app and didn’t think about dating apps for about a year.

Second Chances

Then a year ago, a dating app came up as an advertisement on my Facebook app and I decided to give it a whirl.  It wasn’t long before I started talking to a guy.  At first I didn’t realize that he lived in California and by then, I didn’t care.  We talked for a bit and I started to let my thoughts go wild.  I was already trying to figure out how we could meet and trying to make it more serious than it really was.  After about a month, he just disappeared and I never heard from him again.  I was slightly frustrated and decided to delete that app as well.

Third Times a Charm?

6 months after that, I had a friend who I actually was kind of interested in (see Misadventures in Talking part 2), recommend Bumble.  I downloaded it, but after I saw 3 of my coworkers show up on the app it gave me pause.  While I was living in Arkansas, I knew that I would constantly see the same people on those dating apps.  Also, it seemed most of them were just looking to hook up, which is not what I wanted.  I knew that if I was to find something serious, it likely wasn’t going to happen on those.

Shortly after that, I found out that I would be moving to New Jersey, so I decided that I would wait till I got there.  I didn’t really know anybody there, so I thought worse case scenario this would give me the chance to meet new people.  I can definitely promise you that this isn’t the end of my misadventures when it comes to dating apps.

Have you tried dating apps?  What did you think?
