Today just happens to be my 29th birthday and being this close to 30, I’ve decided that I want to make sure that I’m living my life to the fullest. There are so many things that I want to do, but for one reason or another I keep putting them off. I decided to make a bucket list and even if I don’t get everything done by my 30th birthday, I at least want to make the effort.
I bet you didn’t know this, but If you happened to really observant, you might have noticed that Jenna Rink’s (from 13 Going on 30) 13th birthday happened to be the day that I was born. I have to admit that I was pretty psyched the first time that I watched it. So, in honor of the movie, I decided to share with you the list of the 13 things that I want to do prior to my 30th birthday.
1. Watch a Broadway musical on Broadway
I have seen a number of Broadway musicals, but I’ve never watched one on Broadway. I have always wanted to and I’m going to have a chance to spend time in NYC this year. So, I’ve decided that now is the time to make my dream come true. I haven’t decided what I’m going to watch yet, but that is definitely on the list.
2. Go on a cruise
This one may be cheating, but I needed something that I was definitely going to accomplish. I already have tickets for a cruise in January. I’m really excited for it! Plus I will be able to cross something off my list.
3. See the Northern Lights
When I was younger, I read a book that mentioned the Northern Lights. It was the first time that I had ever heard about them. Ever since then, I have wanted to see them. I’m not really sure where or how I’m going to watch the Northern Lights, but that is one thing that I want to see really badly.
4. Visit the Statue of Liberty
I went to New York City nine years ago and I didn’t visit the Statue of Liberty. Now that I’m getting the chance to go back, it is high on my to do list.
5. Go to the top of the Empire State Building
The other must do thing in NYC is go to the top of the Empire State Building. I’m not a huge fan of heights so I don’t know if I will be able to step out on the observation deck, but I want to at least try. Maybe I will find romance there (joking).
6. See the Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park
This is something that hasn’t been on my list for long, mainly because I didn’t know it existed. I saw it on Pinterest and added it to my bucket list. Again being in NYC will help with this and I think that it will be a hidden treasure inside the big city.
7. Kiss a guy at midnight on New Year’s Eve
This is the one item that I’m afraid I won’t accomplish. Most I can do by myself, but obviously this requires the help of someone else. It also has been one thing that I’ve wanted for a while. Each New Year’s when it gets to midnight, I see couples kissing and I’ve wanted that, but I’ve never been in a couple on New Year’s Eve. Maybe this year will be different.
8. Take a cake decorating class
A friend of mine took a cake decorating class a few years back and has since made some amazing cakes. I like to cook and I really love baking (they just don’t always turn out looking very pretty). So this class should be fun and I get to learn a new skill.
9. Learn to play the piano
Ever since I was little, I have wanted to play the piano. My mom plays and sings very well and I’ve always wanted to be able to do that. I bought myself a keyboard for my birthday last year but I haven’t put as much effort into learning and practicing as I should. I’m going to change that this year.
10. Send a message in a bottle
Doesn’t this seem fun? I’m not sure what message I’m going to send yet but I’m kind of excited about it. Who will find my message? What could it mean for both of us? I’ll have to let you know when I end up doing this.
11. Watch top 100 AMC movies
I’m kind of a movie buff but I know that there are a lot of movies that I haven’t watched yet. I would like to watch all the classics and I think that the top 100 AMC movies are a great place to start. This is going to take up some time and with everything else that I want to do, I don’t want to spend all my time watching movies, but at least I can start making a dent.
12. Write a book
As I’ve mentioned before (see Introduction to Misadventures), I’ve always wanted to write a book. I technically wrote a novel in high school but I don’t really know if should count (it’s pretty awful). I may never get published but at least I am going to spend the effort to write a book and we will see what happens next.
13. Go to a Seahawks game
I love sports, especially football, yet I have never gone to a professional football game. The Seahawks are my team and they are going to play next season near where I will be living. For that reason, I’ve decided that this year, I’m going to try to see them play (maybe I’ll meet a cute guy while I’m at the game).
Do you have a bucket list? Have you put specific timelines on when you want to accomplish things?
